How immigration has affected the UK
It is true that over the centuries there has been a lot of immigration into the UK. We know it’s still happening with the influx of people from Eastern Europe. What is not taken into account is the number of people emmigrating from the UK. One report on Breakfast News a couple of years ago about immigration had a commentator on who pointed out that more people were emmigrating than were immigrating. If this is the case, we will find a shortage of workers and will need to actively encourage immigration into the UK as we did in the 1950′s.
The whole policy of immigration needs to incorporate emmigration or be one of immigration and emmigration so that decisions can be made appropriately without jumping on any bandwagons. It may be that the current immigration policy does look at emmigration, but this is not reported on in the media so the general public are unaware and are not able to make proper comments. At present nearly everyone has a comment that there are too many immigrating into the UK and there is no real workable government policy. This, along with media representations, gives people the impression that the country is getting ‘overcrowded’ and that people ought to be sent back. What they don’t focus on is how accepting new cultures into the UK and sharing our mixed cultures helps us grow as people and a nation.
