Australian Budget 2011-2012: How it will affect immigration policy?
Skilled Migration Selection Proposal
The Australian Budget for 2011-2012 introduced a new Skilled Migration Selection program.
Individuals and families applying for independent, family or state and territory sponsored visas will be affected by the new model proposed to commence in July, 2012.
Applicants for these independently sponsored visas will have to place an expression of interest using an online electronic processing system rather than submitting directly for a visa, according to the model.
Individuals may be invited to submit a full application only if their original expression of interest is accepted.
457 or employer sponsored visa applicants will escape the effects of the proposed changes.
Introduction of Enterprise Migration Agreements
Also introduced as part of the Budget, Enterprise Migration Agreements (EMAs) are designed to speed up the completion times of major resource projects with a capital expenditure greater than $2 billion.
The EMAs have been drawn up specifically to deal with labour shortages in employment areas that do not fall under skilled migration requirements.
It is likely that the mining industry, above any other Australian venture, will have the funds to fulfill the large capital expenditure requirement.
Those companies employing individual under the EMAs are obliged to invest the equivalent of 2 per cent of their pay roll on training and must comply with normal 457 obligations.
Increased Funding for 457
As a direct result of the Queensland Flood crisis earlier in 2011, an extra $10 million has been dedicated to accelerating the processing time of 457 applications.
A new processing centre will be established in Brisbane in order to speed up the reconstruction of areas ravaged by flooding.
457 processing times are exected to halve.
New Regional Migration Agreements
It is hoped labour shortages in regional areas will be filled.
The RMAs will target high growth areas with local labour shortages.
Regional Migration Agreements (RMAs) will be introduced in 2012 and are designed to match immigrants to regional areas in need of their skill sets.

Citizenship Application Tips
Naturally, filing the U.S. citizenship application is the first step toward becoming a U.S. citizen.
SUBMIT THE PROPER FORM
The form that you need to file to become citizen is Form N 400. This form can be found at a variety fo places including the USCIS website. Read the guide that comes with the form to make sure you are filling it out correctly.
THE CITIZENSHIP ELIGIBILITY TEST
A citizenship eligibility test is available online and in the guide that comes with Form N-400. Take it in order to ensure you meet the eligibility requirements of becoming a United States citizen.
DOCUMENTATION
It is very important that prior to starting the application you make sure you have all the required documents. You will need documents that prove you are eligible. These documents include:
* Employment information
* Permanent resident or Alien Registration Card
* Social Security card
* Birth certificate
* Passport
It is best to have these items with you before filling out the application so that you are focused while you answer the questions instead of worrying about where those items are.
FILING THE FORM
Understand that providing an incorrect answer on your application will delay your citizenship application. A set of instructions comes with Form N-400. Read them thoroughly and follow them carefully. If you have a question or you’re confused by something, you can phone the USCIS or go to one of the online immigration forums for some guidance.
Be completely honest and truthful on the form, even if you think an inaccurate answer would be “innocent.” Your application will be denied and you’ll be deported if the USCIS finds out you’ve lied or been deceptive on the form. It’s always better to leave a question unanswered if you simply don’t know the correct answer.
Take your time and don’t hurry your answers. There’s no time limit to fill out the application once you begin. After you’ve finished filling in the form, review everything. Make sure you haven’t made any mistakes, and correct any errors you find. If you find several mistakes, print out a new Form N-400 and start fresh.
MAKE AND KEEP COPIES
Keep multiple copies of all your documents, including your application. Send your application via certified mail and get a return receipt. The USCIS is famous for losing paperwork, so it is best that you have multiple copies and proof of your filing.
FILE AS SOON AS YOU CAN
File for citizenship as soon as you are eligible. The fees for immigration and citizenship are always going up. The average fee for filing for each process costing more than $1000 not including the cost of fingerprinting and paperwork it is a good idea to file as soon as you eligible.
Applying for U.S. citizenship is an important step in your life. It’s a long, tedious process that has many details and requirements, and it must be done correctly. Taking your time is essential to getting everything right. If you need additional information, you can always go to the USCIS website.

Mexican-Americans and the Struggle For Equality
Americans are taking to the polling stations again this fall. And although this is considered an “off-year” for elections, the tone will be set with regards to one very specific issue – immigration reform.
This fall, American citizens will once again hit the polling stations for the general elections of pubic officials. Although the only seats that will be in contention will the “special elections” within the United States Congress in California’s 36th district and New York’s 26th district, filling recently resigned seats.
Additionally there will be four gubernatorial elections held; Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, and West Virginia all have top positions up for grabs. These elections will set the tone for the 2012 presidential elections in one particular area.
Almost daily, 10s of 1000s of Mexicans come across the border. Almost all have some sort of pre-arranged working assignment or family relationship to associate with, while others come in search of work and opportunity. Most arrive completely legally and with full permission. They then return to their homes and families in Mexico after a long day of hard work in the United States. Others, however, decide that they must run the risk of being caught and break the law, staying in the United States. For many of these people, the only hope of a decent life lay with the fact that they will need to break the law, hoping that their decision will pay off in the end.
The simple fact of the matter is that US citizens do not and cannot perform the tasks that most Mexican laborers excel at doing. As the 2012 elections draw near, expect to hear explosive debates over this issue. Some US citizens want them to be punished, some what them to have all the rights available. But the majority of the Mexican migrant population simply want to work hard and provide for their families – the real “American dream.”
